Anns Villa restored?

Its nice to know that it's been restored, presumably by SanParks. When I passed by there in the 1980's, it was derelict. There was a SanParks camp on the top of the mountain; Ann's villa is at the inland foot of the pass. Much too big for current traffic!

Perfect friend weekend

This lovely big house, in the middle of no where, is comfortable and well equipped. Rooms are spacious and plentiful, allowing for group and private spaces. The old house is drafty and while wall heaters help to warm the bedrooms,the shared spaces are really very cold. Fire places do not work We were given an oil heater after a chilly first evening and this made all the difference. One en suite room downstairs, upstairs room have shaped bathroom and shower. Decor is all is quirky and fun. Some built on entertainment with TV, DVD player, pool table and some board games. Bring your own DVDs and games and you're set for laughter filled evenings.

A trip back in time to 1864

I don't want to mislead you to think this is 5 star accommodation, it's not, it's 1864 accommodation in nearly the original form it was way back then. it will only appeal to you if you want to get first hand experience of the trading and life style in the 1800's. the place is full of history which you can see and touch. what made me really enjoy a long weekend there, firstly there is no one else around you for miles, no traffic, no TV, yes there is cell phone reception. It is quite and the only noise is the sound of the great variety of birds and occasionally a dussie running over the house tin roof or monkeys raiding the guava tree out front. the kitchen is the gathering point as is typical of old farm kitchens, everything happens in the kitchen. The dinning room echo's the bygone era. Lounge and games room are huge. on site attractions, I believe is the most complete blacksmith workshop and an original trading store with records of receipts from the origin of time in the area. it is self catering with all the functionality needed in the kitchen. there are about 7 or 8 rooms all well equipped with the basics you need, a number of bathrooms however the plumbing is worse than the 1800's could ever be. we had no hot water first night and that's not pleasant in May, it was however fixed by Marron who manages the property so second night was a pleasant hot shower. I loved it but I must say it is no everyone's cup of tea, it is a bit rough and needs a lot more care and attention but it has something special. I would love to do another visit, maybe not in winter. It is soul refreshing and different. Certainly recommendable self catering, but not for sissies
